Framed by its majestic central Oahu site, the Art Center synthesizes contemporary elements to provide a sustainable yet creative space for the arts. Oahu’s alluring landscapes [A’ina] inspired the Center’s form and character. Its roof lines and slender building envelope echo the angles of the nearby mountains and gulches, and its natural grass rooftop helps transition the building into its site, a former plantation field.
Operable wood panels on the façade, enables users to interact with the building, changing its appearance over the span of a day. A connection to the outdoors and rooms filled with warmth and light encourages the community’s involvement in the arts.
